Why this course exists
Most organisations invest in engagement from the top down: a new values statement, an annual survey, a wellbeing week. Then they wonder why nothing changes.
Engagement isn’t built in the boardroom. It’s built, or lost, in the hundreds of small conversations a manager has with their team every week.
People rarely leave organisations. They leave the experience their manager creates. Two people can do the same job, for the same company, on the same salary, and one gives everything while the other quietly checks out. The difference is almost always how they are managed.
The business case is hard to ignore. Gallup’s research links highly engaged teams to 23% higher profitability, 18–43% lower staff turnover and up to 81% fewer unexcused absences. That is not a “nice to have.” It is the gap between a team that delivers and a team that drains.
Who’s it for?
This 2-3 hour workshop is built for line managers, team leaders and the HR and L&D professionals who support them. It’s especially valuable if:
You’ve been promoted for being good at the job, and now you’re expected to get the best out of other people with little or no training
Your engagement survey results land every year, and nobody is quite sure what managers are supposed to do about them
You manage a mixed team and suspect that what motivates one person leaves another cold
You’re leading people through change, such as a restructure, a new system or an acquisition, and need their buy-in rather than their compliance
You want to turn your organisation’s values from words on a wall into behaviours your team can actually see
What you’ll walk away with
This course is built around the four enablers of engagement identified by Engage for Success. The session is practical, hands-on and no-fluff.
The session covers:
Telling the story of the organisation
Living the values.
Delivering bad news well
Giving your team a voice
Managing the individual, not the average
Leading people through change
How the day works
This isn’t a lecture. Expect facilitated discussion, real-world scenarios, group exercises and honest peer feedback throughout. You’ll practise the conversations you’ll be having on Sunday morning, not just talk about them.
The two ideas you’ll carry forward
Engagement is not something you do to people. It’s the conditions you create for them to give their best each day.
You can’t motivate a team. You can only motivate the individuals in it, and that starts with knowing what drives each one.
